Tui Na (pronounced tu ai na) is a bodywork therapy that was developed in China over 2,000 years ago. The Tui Na system incorporates techniques similar to chiropractic, osteopathic and physical therapy, in the form of acupressure, massage and bodywork. The work is done entirely with the practitioner’s hands to help increase the beneficial flow of Qi through the patients meridian system.
Various hand techniques and stretching are used to restore correct anatomical musculoskeletal relationships and neuromuscular patterns, as well as increase the circulation of Qi and blood to eliminate biochemical irritants.
As with other styles of Asian bodywork, Tui Na is designed to prevent problems, not just correct them, by keeping the body’s energy in balance. Its health benefits are not just physical, but mental and emotional as well.
